What is Caviar?
Caviar is a dish made from fish eggs, which are also called roe. In general, if the label does not specify, caviar comes from sturgeon roe. However, you can find caviar from other fish too.
Caviar is made by curing the roe with salt. Because sturgeon are large fish with small populations, caviar can be hard to make, so it is considered a luxury item, hence the price tag that is attached to it.
Because it comes from fish, caviar has a distinctive fresh fish taste. It also tastes salty. The flavor should be smooth and nutty. The texture is somewhat chewy, but because the eggs are small, it does not stick to your mouth.

How Do People Eat Caviar?
Caviar is usually served on crostini. Crostini are small pieces of lightly buttered and toasted bread. It is also regularly served on crackers or with eggs.

What is the Nutritional Value of Caviar?
The following table shows some of the nutritional information for one serving of caviar. This assumes that a serving is around 1 oz (28g) of caviar.
How Many Net Carbs Are There in Caviar?
Caviar has about 1g net carbohydrates per 1 oz serving. This means there is little fiber in caviar, and the carbohydrates are all counted towards the net carbohydrate total.
Net carbs are calculated by deducting the total amount of fiber from the total number of carbs.
Is Caviar Keto Friendly?
Caviar is keto-friendly. With only 1 gram of net carbs per serving and 7 grams of protein, it makes a great addition to any keto diet.
Because caviar is regularly served on bread or crackers, though, you may have to consider how you eat it to keep it keto.
Bread and crackers are not keto-friendly. Eggs, however, are keto-friendly, so you can have caviar on eggs, with keto-friendly vegetables, on a bite of fish, or alone.
